Brooklyn Bowl - Splitting Lanes and Dodging Gutters Show 2016

The theme of the Brooklyn Bowl Show - Splitting Lanes and Dodging Gutters was Race Bikes of all kinds...so I stepped outta my "comfort zone" and brought out two bikes that are a bit outta the norm for me...my Freddie Marsh Norton and my drastically updated 1937 Larry Franz Sr. Hill Climber...I  picked up my oldest son Jake over Jersey, and hit Brooklyn...

Ladies and Gentlemen...Mr. Joe Oz!

Our host Girard Fox with Joe Oz and Jake

My good friend of 30 plus years Al Perry and his 1939 WLDD
This bike has not seen the light of day since he last raced it in 1994!

Setting the stage...

Jake taking in the beauty that is Brooklyn...

Jake took a crash course in "Unloading in the Street 101"...
Step One - Stand and watch old guys argue while you smoke a cigarette...Oh and make sure the ramp is at the steepest possible angle.

Step Two - Move outta the way of anything that looks remotely strenuous... AKA... let the old guy do it...

Step Three - Watch funny old guy perform "Dope" dance moves, while all the while staying clear of any physical activity...

Step Four - While ensuring that you are completely clear of any possibility of helping if something goes wrong, finish smoking your Newport and most importantly, make sure to take note of Rhett's fancy foot work as the rear wheel meets the pavement...OK. Jake is now a qualified Unloadologist!!!

Note: I raised four of these "Dad's little helpers" just like this one...that's why I learned how to do everything myself...leverage is the key people!

Hhhmmm... wonder who this could be?

Race bikes of all makes and models began to show up...

Always great to hang with my old pal Rhett Rotten

Headed out early Saturday morning to the First Annual Country Mile Race at the Oakland Valley Race Park in beautiful Upstate NY (Cuddebackville)...Didn't know what to expect regarding the event, but knew I was gonna get the WLDR back out on the track. I left the Knuckle home for this one... The weather reports were looking real shaky and other events in the area had canceled...Walter from Kick Start and the Country Mile team pushed forward "Rain or Shine" ...OK I'm in!
Well Saturday turned out just friggin' perfect! The track looked wet and sloppy in the AM from Friday rain but thanks to the team at Oakland Valley Race Park it was groomed and dried out to perfection by practice time. The turnout of riders and bikes was incredible, Harley Panheads, Flatheads Shovelhead, Sportsters and a Hummer even...British bikes, Japanese bikes you name it!
Racing went all day and for a first time event was relatively smooth...a couple of crashes (not me this time) and a little waiting around between runs but nothing too bad...
Of course I got yelled at... for setting up to drag race in the pits...I wasn't really gonna do it Walter,,,promise...(I did warn him Saturday morning when he thanked me for coming that by Sunday he would regret it)
We got a blast of rain on Saturday night which didn't seem to slow any of the after-party down. There were trophies and prizes the bar was opened music played and a bonfire roared...
Will be back next year for sure!!!

As usual I wish I took more pictures!
